clashes with Top Gear
You mean there are folk who would rather watch Clarkson than see this? What sort of enthusiasts are they???......
-
Anything a Peel can do.....
-
No, they won't be driven by a dollop! ;D
-
Whats a dollop?
-
From my dictionary: a shapeless mass or lump! ;D Ref: Top Gear! ::)
-
Well, not being a fan of TG I cant argue with that! I have just noticed to my horror that the nose and single headlight of these contraptions bare an uncanny resemblance to the front of the Inter. Oh dear!
-
Its confirmed,i will be missing the Antiques roadshow, this weeks Top Gear is one ive been waiting for, where the challenge is to go ut and get 3 good 70's British Leyland cars and put them through the usual tests.sorry Stuart!
-
Were there any good 1970s British Leyland cars ???. The ones I had in 70s were awfull. ;D
-
id sooner have any of them than any of the boring, overweight rubbish being imported now
-
Overweight? I was under the impression that modern euroboxes were lighter.
-
wrong, the bmw mini weighs about the same as an Austin Maxi
-
But these are not Microcars! ;D
-
neither is a modern eurobox, and according to a lot of miserable people in the rum, neither are invalid carriages...
-
I always thought I.Cs were microcars for the less able-bodied !
-
Dont start me off Dan! I havnt upset anyone for about a year now! Interesting what you say about the weight of the new mini, didnt know it was a such a heavyweight. Then again I guess its not a typical supermini, my Fiat Grande Punto only weighs 1015kgs, I dont know how that compares? You also specified "imported rubbish" I was under the impression that this car was made in Blighty. Anyway as BD says the afore mentioned modern offerings are not microcars. I for one have never denied that on paper invalid carrages fall into the microcar catagory but you cant make me or the miserable majority LIKE them even though I own one! Still Stuart is a nice chap and in the interests of solidarity I will be watching the Antiques road show on sunday night.[being an antiques dealer could have something to do with it]
-
Its difficult to see how anyone can deny that an Invalid carriage is a form of microcar even if they don't appreciate their virtues at the current time.
Other criticisms of the 'new' Mini were that despite being two feet longer and a foot wider it has less rear leg room and less luggage space than the original. I'm fairly sure its fuel consumption figures weren't as good either to begin with either.
-
You also specified "imported rubbish" I was under the impression that this car was made in Blighty.
Oh yes folks, despite being German through & through, the new Mini is actully made in good old Oxford. In Cowley to be presice. and on the very same site as the Morris Marina, Princess & some Maxi's. Therefore the New Mini is spiritully British Leyland if not in heart! ;D
By the way, be careful about how much we go on about "imported rubbish", for we do have one or two Germans on this forum, (Hello Ferdi :-*) Plus which country provided us with Heinkels, Messerschmitts, Goggos and Peel engines..... ;D
-
Stuart thanks but i don't care. At least i rather prefere english lifestyle and microcars more than german (rubbish ;D )
-
i wouldnt sing the praises of the bmw mini that much,it may be built here, but all the money goes back to bmw. They also wont acknowledge that they built the isetta,a classic car mag dod a feature on the bubble and took it to cowley for a pic,and were asked to leave by security.
-
Who 's singing the praises of the BMW/BL Mini. ??? Wasn't the first Minicar in name manufactured by Bond? ;D
-
I have heard simular stories about BMW trying to write the Isetta out of there history, if it were not for the isetta the drug dealers would have no wheels today! Why should they be ashamed of a vehicle that save the company from liquidation. I wouldnt mind but before that they were building Austin sevens under license.
-
Don't forget the original point of this topic though folks. 8pm TONIGHT on BB1, the Antiques Roadshow. From the pre-production reports I've had, we actully get some action shots as well..... :o
-
Dont tell me, Micheal Aspel is going to drive one around the corridors of the BBC and make a cheeky comment about Fiona Bruces bottom?
-
Who knows, ;) only half an hour to wait as of now though.....
-
Sad i can't watch it Stuart ! :(
-
Where were they? ???
-
Yeh Stuart, where were they? I sacrificed Heartbeat for Nowt!
-
not the first time Stuart was promised a feature on telly and then it never happened, come on Stuart, why was it not on,not that i missed it,because i didnt watch it,but then again there was nothing to see ??? ;D
-
Watching television? Shouldn't we be out restoring our micros? ;D
-
As I said when I was a baby when something went missing. "Let's see gone!" ;D
-
Dont be upset Stuart, you were proberbly told the wrong week. Keep us posted.
-
Well, once again it would seem the production companies have concidered such a thing as a conveyance as being "too hot to handle" on primetime TV. Plus the no-show really buggers up my next Register Page too. >:( Mind you, I've noticed with the Antiques Roadshow that sometimes they do an extra programme with stuff not shown in the original episodes. Maybe then.... I'll keep you posted.....
-
OK, hands up who watched Top Gear? Possibly a predictable slagging-off
of the cars featured in the challenges but well up to their usual standard.
Jennifer Saunders was really cool as the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.
Now maybe I'm being a perv here but am I the only one to take notice of
the faces in the audience? There was an absolute cracker behind Richard
Hammond when the trio were running through the News items. On the other
side of the coin, Jeremy Clarkson was being overlooked by a fat munter (as my
daughter would say) with a huge shiny stud through her nose. I thought it was
a wart. Thus the balance is restored.
Catch the repeat this week and see what I mean.
Amities a tous
Nick D.

Right folks, we now have three pages of postings about a feature on Invalid carriages that did not happen? If we keep up this meaningless drivel going for a bit longer we might managed the 6 pages of postings the 'P50 on top gear' did and bring the balance back into the Invalid carriage field. I am sure that will cheer Stuart up.
What about Jeremy Clarkson test driving an Argson Electric through the new drive through carwash at my local Morrison? Then comparing its performance to a Sinclair C5?. May be the BBC producers should give that some thought.
Any more ideas?
-
would rather have pages of drivel than absolutely nothing,or god forbid yet more talk about peels.
-
What's a Morrison, A micro Minor?
-
Well Dan, I quite agree with you about modern size/weight. I once had a Bedford van, the one with a short bonnet so it looks a bit like the Fiat multipla. In its day, before Transits were common, it was a fairly large and intimidating vehicle, and a big step up from my original Mini. A few weeks ago there was one in our yard. How quaint and small it looks compared to modern cars. It is only just bigger than Mum's Suzuki wagon, which is a compact. I na asimilar vein i remember people at work in the 70's asking why anyone would want a car as big and wide as a Ford Corsair. Now there's one down the road...it is almost small !
