G-wiz fixed!
« on: August 02, 2012, 11:49:05 am »
Last week we had some problems with our G-wiz for the first time in three years of owning it. Basically it left me stranded about a mile away from home, could have been worse, it just meant I had to walk home. I got Ric of EV Workshop around to check it out and it turned out to be the charging chip that had somehow become corrupted, the gauge was reading fully charged but it was really very low, the chip had reset its self to only charge the car to 20%. Anyway, with a quick plug in of the laptop and a resetting of the chip the car is back to normal. Common causes of this chip corruption are a power surge when charging[power cut in the night] or over use of the boost button. If you own a  electric microcar I can highly recommend EV workshops, they are fast, knowledgeable and the costs are reasonable, the testing and chip reset cost me just £20 and the car didn't have to move off the drive. I think we got off very lightly indeed! Its a strange feeling though being powerless to fix my own car, apart from brakes and steering there is nothing I can tinker with myself, how I hate digital technology!! I still love the Wiz though.

Perhaps you could fit a small 50cc (or 500cc Invacar) engine in there as a back-up.
You could have a little tinker from time to time.

Sorry to hear you had a problem but great that it was easy and cheap to have it fixed. Good to make others aware of the fault, and the good service from EV

Unfortunately I did have to control myself from posting "Nyah, nyah, should have bought a Twizy!"

Bob, I gather you will be passing my way with another micronaut who was thinking of calling in to my "Drum" (!). He phoned me to suggest dropping in which would have been great, but sadly I will be off for a long weekend by then, so perhaps another time!

Be antisocial then Marcus! You could have canceled you weekend away! :D :D

Re the Nyah Nyah!! As I type this its raining so hard outside and horizontallly at that I cannot hear the keyboard click, image how full of water a Twizy would be now! I really like the Twizy but a car without windows in this country? I dont think so.

Anyway have great weekend, it will be fine if you are doing water sports! See you another time.

How much more could it have cost Renault to add perspex side windows? Or even see through rubbery plastic! (like messerschmitt cabrio hood rear window)

That's why I think most cars should inspire themselves from old mechanics, instead of trying to make a car look retro (not the twizy, but some cars copy the basic old car lines).

People should stick with ideas inspired from the Ford T. Think of it. They hardly changed mechanicly from 1908 to 1924, so basicly any Ford T has mechanics from 1908. Main difference mechanic wise were the carbs and electric start.

They went to about 45MPH, which is definitally good enough for normal roads. There is also an optionnal Ruxtall2 speed rear axle, which gives it a total of 4 gears, so you can add a bit more on the top speed.

Just check out how they thrash these about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA2P76gQUCo&feature=player_detailpage#t=54s

Brand new "off road cars" couldn;t do everything these can. Of course, they will beat the crap out of them if it's about speed, but I bet you the Ford could go to laces the new cars couldnt!

They should really make new cars copying the Ford T's design... It would be great, copying it but with modern ideas to make them more economical and more powerful...
