Deer Peelpower

This machine looks like a very early petrol electric Hybrid with a petrol engine powering an electric motor which in turn powers the machine. Or have I misunderstood the photograph?

This is a Lely, from Holland. I did have a picture somewhere of an identical vehicle but I can't find it! Of the one here on German eBay, it is/was listed as dating from 1981. From the details I was told about the one I can't find the picture of, this may actully be correct, although the engine seems a bit old to me to bear that out....

Power-wise, it is a normal petrol machine. The electric motor which can be seen is the starter motor. The engine would not have had a starter motor such as this in any other appilcation other than on this invalid carriage hence it being mounted outbourd of the engine itself. This praptice was quite common on conveyances & micros in the early to mid 1950s. For example; the Invacar Mk 8, the Bond Mk C & the GORDON!   Just ask our Bob....   ;D  :-*
