So does no-one have any idea of the lovely red and white car on Donald's blog page? Surely SOMEONE must have a clue!

Hi Marcus. If you mean the one at the bottom of the left hand column I believe its a car we saw at Story, A home made one off. If I'm wrong I'm sure Donald will correct me.

Bobbybubble you are right. The car on the bottom left ,was home made in the ex GDR ( former Eastgermany ). It has, as far as i can remember a front door with the hinge at bottom.
Or if we talking about the car top left, this should be an Avolette.

Hi Ferdi
You are right I remember seeing this car at Storey the year after the wall came down and we all went for a trip to "East Germany" when the border guards were still there - and the roads were terrible - and churches were falling into disrepair, we (the English) on the trip had to pay I believe 30 DM to the guards to be allowed to cross the frontier.
The car was handbuilt in East Germany and it used the rear half of a Heinkel scooter - complete with the frame in a similar fashon to the Cursor from the UK. You are right the door did hinge from the bottom and the car was well made but on closer inspection you could see that it had been handbuilt.

Hi Goggo,
im fairly shocked the brits were charged 30 deutsch marks. I reckon they did ,coz u didn't know it was cost free.
I do feel sorry mate!

Anyway, this must have been in the year 1990, as far as i can remember. We all went across the old border having a look whats going on there.

Thanks all, as it has a Heinkel engine I would bet that it is the car I saw in a mag 20 years ago, and have been trying to identify since then! The article said it had a Heinkel engine and thought that it may have been a prototype Heinkel sport bubblecar. Nice to find out at last

You can get a closer look at this vehicle here, listed as a 1953 Schubert prototype, one of two built.

hi Blob
I think it unlikely that it was built in 1953, from memory it used a heinkel  A1 back end that was not introduced till 1957/8 - this was just the mis-information that was attributed to the car at the rally were nobody knew who had built this car - pretty though.

I do not know contact details for the Kunneckes, but thanks one and all for the info and links, I have been keen to find out about this for a long time. I think the bottom hinges are a bit of a joke for access, but it is a lovely looking car
