Laid up insurance.
« on: October 31, 2008, 04:54:59 pm »
Hi. Has anybody any experience of laid up insurance policies or better still recommend a company for it? I need fire/theft and accidental damage cover but having asked a couple of the usual companies they both specified that the car has to be registered first and as mine isnt thats where the conversation stoped. There must be some more specialised firms out there that come help. Any ideas?    Cheers. Bob

Bob, AON in Dudley, West Midlands (01384 552789) handle my collection and as you know serveral of my cars are unregistered.  Lawrence House recommended them to me because he had always found them most helpful and reasonably cheap.  I have found the same,so they may be worth a try.

Hi Jean, I tried AON but they didn't want to know, in fact there classic policies are all now handled by Footman James who told me that existing policies on unregistered cars are honoured but will not entertain any new ones. I got the same reply from all the main classic brokers. After hours of searching up and down the country a pal said try our local broker in Romford which I did and got the cover right away! It would seem that most of the big classic brokers use the same underwriters and you have to try someone who uses a different one to have any joy. Anyway, its sorted but I'm looking forward to having a laugh about the agreed valuation, the broker said there expert valuers will compare recent sales prices and come up with a spot on valuation, YEH RIGHT! See you all Sunday.
