Thrif-T offered on ebay
« on: March 17, 2010, 09:25:43 pm »
The only surviving example of the small Thrif-T production is for sale now.  :o
There were six different models available in 1950. This car was painted red before Mark Zalutko made a full restoration.

I´m curious if there will be a buyer for the US $45,000.00  ;)

It looks like its been very well restored. Not my cup of tea though. As for the asking price, just think what else you could buy for that!

To quote,

"asking price is ONLY $45,000"

That's alright then!   not to mention it's utterly horrid.   surely he's added a couple of noughts on by mistake?!    ::)

At that price the name of the car is an obvious oxymoron.
I'm thinking that it should max out at about a third of that price- for someone that is far richer and even more moronic than myself.
Was the car repainted red sometime in its distant past?  Otherwise I don't understand why the car picture you've posted is red yet the car pictured on Ebay is yellow with the admonition that it is both restored to its original color and the only one left in existence.
This could be a bit of an example of "if a car is too rare nobody knows or cares about it enough to value it highly." ;D

I think you summed that up nicely Steven. Sometimes cars are too rare, they often need a cult following to be desirable.

P50. I think its horrid too but I said it "wasn't my cup of tea" because I'm making an effort to be nicer on the forum. Not so as anyone will notice!

according to articles on the vehicle published both in RUMCAR News and later in Microcar News, the car was originally painted YELLOW, then green, then the RED color you see in the above photos.
So yellow is apparently the original color.

I like it as it is sort of butch. Rarity does not mean valuable though. It means a liability in many cases. The market will decide as always but the wrong colour will put a few off I suspect. So your right. Nice!
