Messerschmitt Tg500 Trials car.

Hi All,
Does anyone on here old enough or won't admit to being that old, remember the antics of the Tg500 Tiger that won most of the hill climb runs on the television in the 1970's? Were you the driver? I don't think it needed a bouncer! It just sailed up the muddy hills. Is the car still about? Were there any write-ups about it?

Thanks very much. It's amazing that the trials were on the Box in the 60's and not as I thought, the 70's. Strange how many of the cars had reg no's with 500 in it. Rob.

Just checked with DVLA and two of the Tg 500's are still listed and taxed for this year. 500 BOR and YOW 500. All I can say is WOW !

This is the Ken Piper/Testwood Motors and beyond tale of Tiger based motorsport in the UK. This ended with miffed Spridget types banning the Tiger from sport by dint of changing the rules on minimum width of a cars to take part in their class. They were fed up of being crap competitors getting beaten as much as anything. I would suspect the whole thing is on line at one of the Messerschmitt websites. If not it might be obtainable for transference but I would be a little reluctant to get to into it on RUMcar as it might seem slightly inappropriate.
My bud owns 500 BOR now. Not an anorak but YOW 500 will be on the Hieko Zimmerman Tiger spotters hand book which pretty much itemises the known history of each of the Tigers produced. If you wish I can provide some info. I have the ID and papers for XOR 500, another evented Tiger which was totaled in an accident on a roundabout. Of course the Germans had even more cars used for sport and there are some great pictures of Tiger racing including several of impending disaster! Ferdi or someone might have digital copies available.

There was one TG which I saw in a Classics mag a few years back which had raced, then ended up horribly modiofied and with (I think) a Hillman Imp lum in the back, and I think this was the one which was restored to near original spec by a man in Essex
