Shed sort out
« on: October 13, 2012, 10:41:59 am »
I have spent about a week so far sorting out my local storage shed. I am suffering a reduction in space of some 1200 sq ft down to 860 sq ft. I cannot grumble as for years I have only paid for the 860 sq ft and been allowed to sprawl. The week has been needed just to clear all floor space of loose stuff leaving only vehicles free to be shuffled. The shelf space has been created by moving all the Messerschmitt spares out to another storage area. The effort has been well worth it as some van full and a list of unwanted stuff has been pulled out. Also despite thinking I had cleared all Schmitt bits some two whole dexion units of more and loose bits have appeared and need sorting. To the extent I found a SAchs engine whole I had forgotten about. Behind everything are the plastic boxes the stuff is to finally sort into. Yes, the usual storage crisis of stuff back to front leading to a total mess. This whole effort has not been made easy by there being an entire Oak Framed building stored in the shed as well. None the less we have come up with a way of storing 24 cars in this space along with the building and remaining spares. A pretty good effort and a confirmation of why Microcar are great to collect. They do not take very much space up!
So the cars will be going into lock-down till I move but I will be clearing spares, misc parts and some automobilia like several classic Oil tanks, petrol pumps and such. I will have some cheap cans of oils. Also Borgward panels, probably a clear-out of tyres and wheels. So expect some selling of oddball crap over the winter. More Heinkel bits coming up shortly.

Any Villiers stuff coming out?

Never had much in the way of Villiers bits and with the Scootacar and Frisky I need to keep parts that might be used on them. That is tricky as neither has been checked out properly. Gone are the days when you got picky over a reasonably priced option of these cars, you just buy if you want one and sort the details out later. I have yet to even see the Frisky! So once I check these cars there might be some spares if I am keeping irrelevant bits. For instance I have three exhaust systems but is any of them of use on these cars?
I have sorted out the dynostarters now. I am keeping a Villiers type Siba reversing dynostart for each car, one new. I am keeping a non reverse for the Frisky in case. So one of those and at least one other on rebuilding the engines, will come up spare as well. That leaves me with one reversing dynostart and one non reverse plus a stator unwanted now.
I have a Excelsior dynostarter which is a boxed new stator and lightly used flywheel spare - but is the Frisky an Excelsior? (If it is I might not keep it as I am not a fan of the Excelsior, great when it works but more often than not a pig).

The jump start Villiers Ducky. 'Gets you, dear!' Small enough to fit in the closet and great for popping out for a stylish splash with the boys down at Lyon's.

I have what I would think is a 40 gallon Pratts oil container with dipper and lid. The lifting pump has gone but a modern one fits the hole and the tank holds liquid. Indeed there is some old oil in it now to keep it fresh. Would restore well or just use for the job it was intended. I have one that I collect Two Stroke in when it is on offer so I always have at least 10 gal in stock and avoid paying silly prices for it. Another has diesel, etc etc. No doubt the Government will advise that this illegal but I think their tax is a bit suspicious too.

The other one is a Castrol oil dispenser complete with curved roof and drop down door. It is a one pump version and as a guess would run to 60 gallons. I bought this to convert into a parts cleaner as it is self contained and has a suitable area to set up a bath in which to clean things yet I could close the door on the whole thing. This unit stands about 7 foot tall. I need to shift it as it is blocking in my trials car and that is acting as a cork to a load of cars behind.

The excess oil is to be decanted into 5 lt tins as most folks would not want more than that. It is SAE 30, SAE 40 and SAE 90. I might have some SAE120 and I might do some 1 lt containers. Now I am not doing loads of cars I do not need to keep all this and will settle for a sensible quantity. A load of other unctions to go too. Auto transmission fluid etc.
