old bores
« on: December 28, 2013, 05:18:22 pm »
Twas the week before Christmas when I ,  like Bob . Got my early present . Mine was, and is , a 328 Excelsior engine . Both cylinders had been left without plugs so have the usual " Beatles" , well it is Liverpool  ;) etc in the bore along with two seized pistons . I freed 1 piston with wd40 and a tap and wiggle . Can't yet shift the other - what was the concensus last time this came up - also I will have to free the rings from the pistons

I seem to remember it was a soaking in diesel overnight.

When my friends Mini had seized pistons and a 5ft bar on the end of the crankshaft nut couldn't shift them , I took off the head. placed a couple of steel plugs ( about the size of the pistons) on top of two pistons and then screwed the head down.  Shifted straight away.
