Loverly! In Dallas 3 years ago I was negotiating to place work with a carbon fibre and fibre glass company. They had built a plane style car, tandem seats like a Schmitt and 4 wheels in diamond layout, looking quite like a jet fighter cockpit.
Several German WW2 jet aircraft had Riedel or Sachs 2 stroke engines as starter motors, set within the cone in the centre of the intake, and variations of these found their way into scooters and cars which we all know.
This one does look a bit like it has gone AWOL from a merry-go-round.

Interesting reading about the little 2 cyl boxer engines used as starter engines for Messerscmitt ME262 fighters.
 The famous pilot Ken Wallace  ( little nelly autogyro in all the old james bond films)   lives close to me and I visited him as part of my job to make a new body for his autogyro . He'd managed to get a few of these beautifully made engines as part of his research in the late 40's. In a bit of spare time he fitted one of these engines in the nose of a glider and used to fly it at the local gliding club much to the disapproval of the other glider pilots.

Hi Dave . That sort of thing interests me very much as a Bleriot fan. I guess the gyrostarter made by westinghouse fitted to my Inter Torpedo is loosley based on a starting divice for something much much bigger, maybe a helicopter. Pardon me for asking but what is your Job description? Its always handy to know these things. Regards, Bob

Bob,
 I work as a production supervisor in a fibreglass factroy ,we are making parts for Lotus both current models and replacement parts for old models ,We also make race car bodies ,i'm also quoting to do the fibreglass items on a small 'kit' biplane .We have a small pattern/design shop and i spent 8 years working in that dept.
 As with fibreglass I do end up doing repairs on the side for reliants,bugs,scootercars etc.I'm also making a few race car parts for old classic racers.
