Acoma

Two Acoma's for the same price, one black convertable and one white (ish) saloon. The black one is very unusual.

Somehow I don't think that black is any member of the Comtesse familiy...  I'll do some digging!

The front end and door hinge is very similar to the Comtesse Coupé Type 800 E only that has round headlights and the rear is different, maybe a prototype only the badge doesn't look very Comtesse!

Could it be the 800E Sports Convertable, although it appears that the Sports has a soft top on front with glass-fibre as a b-pillar (unless this is removable), whereas this one is convertable all the way, except for a support bar from rear to windshield.  The front nose badge appears round, rather than square on most.  The front is definitely MC, same as my 800E Coupe but no roof. It does look as if the roof is folded down at rear, and the door window would be as if convertable.   Ian.

Same photo but brightened and contrasted.

Ah yes, I stand corrected!  :)  Yep, I'll go along with that, a 1980-84 type 880E convertible. Badge could be anything though, hmmm, maybe its an old "Vote de Gaule" campaign sticker?....    ;D

If so, I could use one of those campaign stickers to go with my key fob.

Dear Ian and Stuart

I think this black 800E may be a saloon with the roof chopped off, and then they realised how much flex there was in the windscreen so they put in the T bar to stop the windscreen snapping off. I am sure it is not a prototype, more like a bodge, but an interesting bodge.

My 800 E has sliding windows, yet it appears that this convertable has roll-up windows.  I wonder if all the Coupes had sliders, and if so, then it is strange that this one has either been modified for roll-up, or they were standard on the Sports.  There does look to be part of the B-pillar still there, and so maybe it is a cut-off coupe, or a cut-off sports.  Maybe the later coupes had roll-up windows then this dialogue is moot.  Could be either, but I do not think now that it is a factory issue.

 ???

Just checked some photos of the Sports and they appear to have detachable curtain windows on the doors.   ???????????? So maybe later 800E's had windup windows.
