Morris J Commercial
« on: August 02, 2012, 01:23:14 pm »
I have always loved these old 40s/50s vans and saw a beautifully restored one on Southwark Park Road SE1 this morning. It has been converted into an Ice Cream van, painted off-white with period style sign writing. I stopped to watch it go past and the driver saw me admiring it, as I gave a thumbs up he tooted his horn and grinned proudly. A lovely sight, I will try and get a photo if I see it again.

It had a silver on black period number plate too, but I really hope this does not give a clue as to the Ice Cream sold from it, as it read *** YUK !

For those that don't know these vans I just looked on Google, and I guess the photo I found shows one which might be owned by the same company:

Hmmm... It looks like a mix of a Rovin D2 with a Solyto, and a normal truck!

It's kinda cool!

I've always loved the shape of these as well. I can recommend the little book by Harvey Pitcher The J-type Van isbn 0954398203.
