Update on my Invacar Model 70 - almost finished!
« on: June 20, 2017, 10:43:45 pm »
So, I set myself a deadline of last Sunday 18 June to get my Model 70 finished. Pleased to say it made it and it's almost done. Still a few bits to find and things to do, but it's close.

Hopefully it will have an MOT this week. It failed last week, but only on a poor earth affecting the lights and a sticking rear brake cylinder. Not bad!

At the show it got lots of attention, mainly from kids who loved it and pointed out it had only 3 wheels, or anyone over 40 who hadn't seen one in years.

Best of all was a chap called Tony who came over and said he had butterflies when he saw it. Reason is he was a mechanic and fitter on them for many years near Croydon and he couldn't believe one was still going. Naturally I offered for him to sit in it and start it and it made his day and he shared a few stories with me. That alone made all the effort worthwhile.

Thought I'd share a few photos, and use this as an opportunity to thank everyone for their help from Stuart and Simon at the register for invaluable help with getting it identified, Barry for bits and advice, Jean for the original rear lights, the Hafliger Technik team for engine parts, Big Al for advice, plus fellow enthusiasts and owners Frazer and Scott for their help and advice.

Cheers!
Neal

Hello Neal,

It looks a fine job you have done there.  I'm at the other end of Kent (Ramsgate) and recently acquired my first Model 70.  It will need the shell sorting in time to look as good as yours though...!

Are you planning on showing the Invacar anywhere this year - would be worth traveling to take a look :-)

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your kind comments.

Good there's another in Kent! I'm unlikely to be at any more shows this year, but you are very welcome to come and have a look.

Latest update is last week I fitted a new exact copy Invacar nose badge that I had specially made by a specialists Pamela David Enamels http://www.badgecraft.co.uk, plus fitted a correct 12 inch wheel on the front that I'd had refurbished, as well as a new speedo cable made for me by Sppedograph Richfield. Helps to know what speed it goes!

Also had a tune up, so runs really sweetly now. Just need to fit a new roof-to-body seal and that's pretty much it done.

Hello Neal,

I only saw your message yesterday (I need to learn how to change my notifications!). What a fantastic badge.  So much so I ordered one today myself..... except it won't be ready until June next year....!  Did you order yours to be slightly curved?  I also see you decided not to have it pre-drilled.

Here's a thought/mad idea.  How about doing a joint presentation next year at a Kent classic car show - yours could the 'after restoration' and I could bring the 'pre restoration' (I hope Barry isn't reading this!) as well as a 'during restoration' rolling chassis!  Whatever happens, I really want to get to see your, what appears to be, concours example :-)

I have been in touch with Bosch today to see if they still do the starter solenoid as one of mine is kaput....  However they're unfortunately no longer made and there isn't an alternative known to them. Oh well, best keep that old screwdriver handy to bridge the contacts...

Taking advantage of the nice weather and both had a run out today, plus picked up an accessory for the Model 70 this week....

Lovely! I had also wondered about acquiring a wheelchair. I had disabled pals at school, so became very adept at doing wheelies in one. Wonder if I still can?

That Model 70 looks absolutely delightful, in a way mine will never be. A credit to you.

I have only just come across this forum and that's a great looking vehicle you have there.

I have the same engine in a trike (in fact I have two engines, one for spares!) however, I am in need of the gaskets for the side Pots as its leaking oil at revs.
I have looked everywhere and even been sent some that were completely wrong.
Can I ask who has supplied you with the gaskets (If you purchased new ones) for the engine.
I will start a new post regarding this if you cant help but any advice whatsoever would be great as, as it stands, its doing just that, standing with no hope of repair...

Or if anyone reading has any info on this?

Thanks in adavnce

And to finish off the updates, now sadly and reluctantly sold as thinning my fleet to help with a house extention. It's heading to Kuwait of all places to a private collection!

Thanks to all on here, especially Stuart and Simon of the Invalid Carriage Register as well as Barry, Big Al and Jean for help with guidance and parts when I was getting my car back on the road. Much appreciated.
