Salamander disabled car
« on: March 11, 2008, 11:33:37 am »
OK, so its not particularly "micro", with a 1100cc Ford engine, but its rare! A 1984 Salamander car, designed for disabled persons in those dark days following the clouser of the Invalid Vehicle Service in the late '70s. Basically the Salamander was a similer idea to the Elswick Envoy, but without the wheelchair.  About 25 were built, and this is the first time I've seen one!  :o

I have been looking at that Stuart , used to know someone from Walthamstow who owned one. Do you know how many seats they were fitted with? Strange question I know but I have my reasons. Also while I have your attention Stuart, would you happen to know what an Elswick Envoy weighs?

The Salomander has two seats, and this one on eBay seems to have quite normal controls as well, as in its got foot pedals, so one could could almost forget the disabled conection & treat it as an unusual automatic car. Hurry up though any interested parties, it ends in a few miniutes & no bids placed yet......

An Elswick Envoy weighs 1500lbs according to the 1984 brousure.

Something tells me you might be acquiring more disabled vehicles again, only a matter of days after shifting the AC Acedes? I always knew I'd entice you over to desabled transports of delight eventually following too much exposure to Inters & Messerschmitts.....  ;)

Alas I very much doubt I'll be at the Bubblecar Musueum do. The two micro events you certainly CAN pencil me in for though is Jean's Open Day & the National.  8) And yes, the Comtesse WILL be present at both this year!

Hi

Did I miss something, is there a working party/open day organised ?

Is Bob being lured to the "Dark Side"?

Actualy I love the Invalid cars etc. but my 3 daughters only just accept being picked up in a bubblecar, if i picked them up from work or school in blue Invacar or something they would probably poison me or force me to watch continuous soap operas or something.

I could probably get away with one of the very narrow ones ( Lamar ? ) by just saying it was a microcar.

Look forward to meeting the internationaly famous Stuart soon.

John

 ;)

John, we were referring to the usual open day at the farm which I believe has not had a date set yet. You can speculate all you like chaps but I am certainly not in the market for any invalid carriages, Its farely common knowledge that I dislike them with a passion equal to that of Stuarts liking them! [this doesn't prevent us from being the best of friends] Or put another way, If you were my dad and came to pick me up from school in one I , like Johns kids would die of shame. I asked Stuart what he knew about the afore mention cars because I have an interest in single seater automatic vehicles that are under 400kgs. And John, you surprise me, the Lamar is the ugliest of them all ! Funnily enough, they were made local to me. Have you ever seen whats under the bonnet, talk about Heath Robinson! There are more chains and sprockets than you can shake a stick at, maybe that is the appeal?
