My first drive in a Messerschmitt! (video)
« on: November 20, 2011, 02:12:24 PM »
Hey,

Driven a Schmitt for the first time today. Lovely weather, and ethe engine has just been put in. We made the engine out of spares, and it runs really nicely! Idle needs a bit of twidling, with, but otherwise no probs!

I really enjoyed it, drives a lot easier than the Nobel (my dad says the opposite!).
I found that on the Nobel, I didn't really feel the clutch "bite", but I did on the schmitt.
Suprisingly, I didn't stall once, and changed gear fine! I was on my own in the car, since my dad was filming.

Went in all the gears, but havent tried reverse yet.

Makes me want to start working on my schmittt, but I want to do the Nobel first!

Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc7OiPdyf5o

not sure you should be driving when your fathers been drinking  :D looks great fun but your dads better behind the controls of a schmitt than a video !

i know your dads had some schmitts for a while and the economies gone belly up so i would expect a reduction in the asking price of these he advertised and after all they will be old stock  ;D

Steering wasnt too hard, since it feels like a motorcycle in some ways.

It was definitally fun!

Just driven the schmitt again.
This time, my dad was in the back, so I could "zoom away" in 4th gear.

It was great fun, better than yesterday.
However, I done a bad mistake... Forgot to indicate on a junction where there never are any cars ;) My dad told me to indicate. I tried to flip the switch with my left hand... Until I realsied it was mounted to the dash, not like the TG500! (don't know why I'm used to that  ??? )
My dad quickly told me it was on the dash, I was looking for it (steering bar was in the way, couldbnt see it!), and I slowly glided across the corner. I was at standstill qwhen I managed to put the indicator on. In the middle of the road.

I think I need more practice. Maybe I should drive it more often for "safety reasons" ;)

Great fun!

Yep!

When I asm older, I will definetally have a load of micros... I prefer them than sports cars, because there cheaper, IMO look nicer, cuter, cheaper, better investment, and of course there faster than those boring sports cars ;)

I enjoy driving them, and fixing them, there very simple compared to modern cars, which is also better.

Only thing I don't like anymore, as I mentionned before, is that people now restore cars to over perfection, better than they ever where, and care just about the price of their car. Fine, the cars I restore will be just as good as they where from the dealers (I hope!), but no better.
Tatty cars are great aswell though! Nicer than restored, and shows its originality.
Now, you cant really tell if a car is a real kr201, or a modified kr200. Thats why my dad badly restored is 201, and left the oriinal interior, and a fe more original parts, so you can tell itsm original.
