if fitted to a Scootercar would a 9e have a close or wide ratio gearbox ? 3 or 4 speed ? thanks very much  ;)

Certainly 4 speed. Wide ratio I think. Were the close ratio ones not for trials bikes?

Well you can buy a gearbox driven speedo for either but I don't think that would be for a trials bike ?

Ah another parts hoarder.  My MkD was a three speed as I recall.

All early MkDs were fitted with 3 speed boxes but were updated in 1957 to the 4 speed unit.  The ratios of a Scootacar box are the same as the MkD but its will lack the kick start shaft, useful in a Bond but no so in a Scootacar or Frisky.  Also the Scootacar has a gearbox driven speedometer drive where as the Bond get its drive from the back wheel via a cable.  This can easily be blanked off as you would not want yet another cable running up from the engine into the car.
Personally, I would look for a 4 speedo box with a kick start shaft for your MkD.

Thanks I have 11e without kickstart - ex I.c. ? And now this 9e also without kickstart but if I cannibalise another I can have a 4 speed with kickstart , just not sure how to check ratios . I gather 3 speed boxes flat bottomed and 4 speed boxes curved bottoms - yes ? By the way no visible difference between 9e and 11e is there ? Other than the plate   :)

Kick start IC were never greatly popular. I cannot think why!

The Scootacar Mk1 might lack the kick start, but it did have a table tennis bat as a back rest, so you could enjoy meeting your fellow Scuttlers. Indeed a handy later Bond would provide that Northern speciality of a crown green Bond ping pong table.

for the hill's (I in 3's  ;D) get rid of the 42t on the front wheel and use a 44t (you'll loose aprox 5mph ) , or like me settle for a 56t and swop the 19 drive sprocket for a 22 . still keep the 8" wheel , then play with the other stuff --- once you are on the road .

the 11E gearbox casting may not be ground out to fit a drive sprocket larger than a 17 tooth , easy diy grind away job for larger sprocket fit .
